What This Country Needs Isn't Another Argument — It's Jesus
Sirens again. Another headline. Another video clip nobody wanted to see.
This week in Minneapolis, a woman was killed during an encounter involving federal immigration enforcement, and now the story is ripping the city — and the internet — into familiar pieces: outrage, fear, protests, accusations, counter-accusations, and a thousand hot takes racing ahead of the facts.
And here's the part that should make us all pause: even if every side got everything they wanted politically, we'd still be living in a nation that keeps bleeding.
Because we don't just have a policy problem. We have a heart problem.
We are drowning in information… and starving for wisdom.
We've never had more access to "the story," and yet we feel more confused, more cynical, and more angry than ever.
We demand justice, but too often we mean "justice for my side."
We demand peace, but we keep feeding the machines that profit off our rage.
We demand accountability, but we rarely apply it to our own mouths, our own posts, our own assumptions.
And in the middle of it all are real human beings — moms, dads, officers, bystanders, neighbors — made in the image of God, caught in the blast radius of a culture that has forgotten how to see people as people.
What Jesus Actually Asks of Us
Jesus doesn't ask us to ignore pain. He asks us to refuse hate.
If you're a Christian, you don't get the luxury of turning tragedies into team sports.
We mourn.
We pray.
We slow down.
We tell the truth.
We seek peace.
We refuse to dehumanize.
Not because we're "soft." But because we belong to a King who was executed by a state, hated by a mob, and still said, "Father, forgive them."
That's not natural. That's supernatural.
The World's Broken Solutions
The world keeps offering the same broken answers.
"If we can just win the next argument, we'll have peace."
"If we can just shame the right people, we'll fix the world."
"If we can just get the right leaders, the right laws, the right enforcement, the right slogans…"
But you can't legislate a changed heart. You can't protest your way into loving your enemy. You can't comment-section your way into unity.
This country doesn't just need reform. It needs resurrection.
What We Actually Need
What we need is Jesus — not as a mascot, but as Lord.
Not "Jesus" as a talking point.
Not "Jesus" as a tribe marker.
Not "Jesus" as a weapon to throw at people we already dislike.
We need the Jesus who:
- teaches us to love our neighbor — even when our neighbor votes differently,
- commands us to tell the truth — even when the truth complicates our narrative,
- calls us to be peacemakers — not peace-keepers who stay quiet, but peace-makers who bring light,
- insists every human life has value because God put His image there.
When Jesus is Lord, we don't have to panic.
When Jesus is Lord, we don't have to demonize.
When Jesus is Lord, we don't have to be addicted to outrage.
What Christians Should Do Right Now
- Pray like it matters. Pray for the grieving. Pray for the frightened. Pray for the officials investigating. Pray for truth to surface fully. Pray for restraint in the streets and restraint online.
- Speak with accuracy, not adrenaline. If you don't know, say you don't know. If you saw a clip, remember: clips are not the whole story. Christians should be the hardest people on earth to manipulate.
- Refuse to dehumanize anyone. Not the victim. Not the agent. Not the protester. Not the politician. You can pursue justice without feeding hatred.
- Be the kind of neighbor people can't explain. Check on someone. Bring food. Offer a ride. Give a safe conversation. The early church didn't change Rome by trending. They changed Rome by being different.
- Preach the gospel with your life and your lips. People are more open than you think when the world feels unstable. The gospel is not "do better." The gospel is: Jesus is King, Jesus saves, Jesus changes people from the inside out.
A Word for the Christian Who Feels Exhausted
You're not crazy for feeling tired. The noise is relentless.
But don't let exhaustion make you numb. And don't let outrage make you cruel.
We can grieve and still have hope.
We can pursue justice and still be gentle.
We can demand truth and still love people.
Because our confidence has never been in a system. It's in a Savior.
What this country needs.
What this city needs.
What your home needs.
What my heart needs…
…is Jesus.
If that's true, then this is the moment to live like it.
